NEW RESEARCH
Pupil Premium Strategy Review
Our new Pupil Premium Strategy Report is an exciting and impactful piece of work that sheds fresh light on how primary schools across the North East Combined Authority are planning, framing, and evidencing support for disadvantaged pupils.
Drawing on a large-scale, systematic analysis of 552 primary school strategies, the report reveals clear patterns in practice, strengths to build on, and critical gaps where support and evidence are most needed.
With an interactive gap map, practical tools, and a full technical appendix, the study provides schools, governors, and leaders with insight they can act on immediately - supporting decision-making and more effective use of Pupil Premium funding to improve outcomes for pupils.

Driving School Improvement Through Teacher-Led Research
Building a North-East Evidence Base for 'What Works'
Drawing on insights from schools outperforming expectations in challenging contexts, we identified seven promising teaching approaches and transformed them into 17 ready-to-run micro-trials using the WhatWorked Teachers platform. Teachers could implement these trials directly in their classrooms, upload results, and instantly receive personalised impact reports to understand whether the intervention was effective for their pupils. Download the research summary or full interim report below to find out what we learned and what this means for the future of teacher-led evaluation.
